Back-to-school mom and a know-it-all baby

Kenneth, eager to manage his time efficiently, studies how to articulate better while having his diaper changed.

Due to Nina's knee injury in April, the doctor forbid any "fitness activities" until the end of July, with the exception of regular physical therapy. Nina decided to make the best use of this down time by taking up studying for the CMA again. That's one reason why there haven't been many new blog entries recently.

Nina passed the first of total four exam parts on July 18th. She enjoyed some time off from studying to relax and catch up with personal stuff, before beginning studies for part 2 of the CMA certification.

Nina reports on her studies and Kenneth's new interest in management books:

As part of my career development plan at Merck, I need to get some kind of financial certification before I can move up in Finance in the post-Enron corporate world. Therefore, I decided to embark on studying to become a certified management accountant. It seems like the easiest certification I can do while working full-time and caring for a busy toddler. Actually, I already started studying in the summer of 2004 but got side-tracked by pregnancy, maternity leave, etc. My registration is still good until December 2007 so the knee injury was as good as any excuse to start studying again. I have to take all four parts to the CMA exam by December 2007. I try to study about an hour each weekday evening and two hours each on Saturday and Sunday while Kenny naps. So far the study time hasn't to cut into my time with Kenny, but my studying seems to have rubbed off on him.

Even a little boy has to want to achieve excellence

Our baby loves DK books with their abundant pictures. Sometimes he even picks out our DK books over his own children books to look at. They really have good illustrated reference guides that are easy to follow and not so wordy. For example, we recommend their first aid guide. We bought this book after attending a first aid course for babies since the instructor highly recommended it.

The one drawback is that since we have this handy guide lying around the house, Kenny sometimes likes to have me read it to him as a bed-time story: The conversation goes something like this: "What? Kenny, The Parent's First Aid Book again? Don't you want me to read something else, like Barbar, the Elephant or Good Night Moon?" "No, Kenny, sorry but I don't want to read how to deal with electric shocks or bodily injuries right now." "Okay, then let's at least find the one with the least graphic pictures: Oh, how about this one? Dealing with Croup..."
